Première Moisson Outremont

We all know la boulangerie Première moisson in Montreal. How can one resist the pastries and arguably the best croissants outside of France. I did not realize the outlet at Outremont on avenue Bernard had seating in the back. I was worried that it might be just a tad bit crowded on a Sunday morning, but it turned out to be very nice indeed. Quite easy to find as it is just diagonally across the junction from the famous Outremont theatre. Great place for a casual meeting.

The Scone Witch

It takes a little bit of witchery to get the scones baked right. That's exactly what the Scone Witch at the corner of Albert and Lyon has done. It's a nice little place for breakfast. They'll keep you coming back for the different flavoured scones. I can't wait to try the meal scones (a sort of larger scone with smoked salmon or whatever). The staff are nice and friendly and the whole experience is very homelike. It's not a very big place though, and filled up quite rapidly just after 11 this morning. Somehow the scones reminded me of this really cute bakery (butter tarts, yeah!) across the police station in Renfrew. Another unforgettable place.

The Mexican Wedding Shirt Minister

Stone-faced Dolly's at Bronson and McLeod is a pretty nifty place to have breakfast on the weekends, especially when an Ontario born and bred United Church minister wearing a mexican wedding shirt joins you at the next table together with his ethnically east indian wife (both Canadians). By the time we left at 11.30 am, the place had surprisingly emptied out. I hope it wasn't due to our conversation filled with dialectic observations.

Johnny Farina not open for lunch on Sundays

We were intending on going to Johnny Farina on Elgin Street for lunch but discovered that it opens only at 4 pm on Sundays. Went to Bravo Bravo for their Sunday brunch buffet instead. $17.90. A little more than what I would typically spend mid-day Sunday at the all-time favourite Manx or on the patio of the Fox and the Feather, but you get more food. It's a buffet after all.
